Breakfast is one of my favorite meals to eat out. There is something about going to a local diner across the street or an upscale breakfast cafe that is truly wonderful. I think a lot of it has to do that breakfast is one of those meals that often gets skipped or overlooked while at home, so eating breakfast at a restaurant is a treat.
Recently I went to Brails Restaurant for the first time to indulge my breakfast fantasy. In Eugene Brails is known to be one of the best, with the University of Oregon daily emerald dubbing it “The best Hangover food”. Walking in, your senses are assaulted with the smells of crisp bacon and brewing espresso coffee. Along the wall are bright red booths scattered with pastel green plates and stacks of fluffy pancakes saunter out of the kitchen to eager families. Funky ’60s fonts and retro artwork complete the classic diner experience.
Although packed with customers on the weekend, the service is quick and my group was seated quickly and our drink orders were taken. One of my favorite things about Brails is their outstanding coffee. Oh man, the coffee was that good. Since I usually take my coffee with cream and sugar the actual coffee can sometimes can get lost, but the strong smooth roast that Brails brews is absolutely delicious.
Outstanding coffee aside, I ordered The Brails Omelet with Hash Browns and Sourdough toast($8). The omelet had Ham, Bacon, Sausage, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, green peppers, onions & tomatoes. The omelet was soft and airy with the perfect amount of veggies/meat to eggs. The real star of the show was the hash browns though. They were perfectly browned and crispy on the outside while tender on the inside. Next time I go, I am ordering an extra side of hash browns to go.
Overall Brails Restaurant can’t be beat. They have mouth-watering breakfast food with large portions and small prices. The cozy diner atmosphere and limitless coffee makes Brails a must-visit breakfast spot for any local Eugenian. To find out more visit their website at http://brailseugene.com/
